From Chips to Cues: Better Color, Smarter Control, Greater Possibilitie
Session details:
LEDs have opened exciting new opportunities for color in lighting design. But how do we navigate the seemingly infinite possibilities quickly and effectively behind the console? This class will discuss LED technologies at each stage in their use, including the designer's intent, the programmer's control, and the manufacturer's product design. We will talk about the basics of LED manufacturing and the “-isms” that go along with them, and techniques designers and programmers can deploy to cover up their shortcomings. This class will cover topics such as binning, the "math" of additive and subtractive color mixing, translating of longstanding gel language into manipulating LED fixtures, different emitter packages (RGB, RGBW, RGBA, etc.) and how consoles communicate with LED fixtures.
