Battle of the Busk (Hands-On Busking with Lighting Consoles) (Day 1 of 4-Day Course)
Session details:
Day 1 (Friday) – Live Programming: How to Busk (9am–5pm):
Battle of the Busk training begins with an introduction to the tools available to participants for Monday evening’s competition. We’ll cover lighting desks, video stations, pre-made tools, and best practices for establishing an effective workflow and getting show-ready. A brief seminar will showcase methods used by top industry professionals, including punt pages, effects libraries, and deployment theory. From there, we’ll break into teams for the remainder of the training. Each team will be introduced to its workstation and begin training and setup for effective pre-visualization and design. The morning session will take place in a meeting room, followed by an afternoon session at the Battle of the Busk front-of-house stations.
Day 2 (Saturday) – Live Programming: Prep for Success (9am–5pm):
The second day is a full day of hands-on creative exploration. Teams will have access to their equipment, trainers, and professional mentors in equal blocks to keep them moving toward their final performances. As the day concludes, all teams will test their systems and have a chance for last looks before finalizing their busking toolsets for Monday’s show.
Day 3 (Sunday) – Battle of the Busk: Final Programming Time (9am–12pm):
Spend time at your Battle of the Busk front-of-house station making final programming tweaks and adjustments. Be sure to check out the VJ Challenge on Sunday evening.
Can this be Sunday 9am—12pm, Monday 9am-12pm or Monday an hour earlier at 1pm – 8pm?
Day 4 (Monday) – Final Rehearsal, Last Looks & Competition (2–8pm):
This is your last chance to put new ideas into your show before the competition begins and each team showcases its work. Once the LDIndustry Party opens at 6pm at the Circle Bar, the industry will gather to watch the performances and vote for their favorites alongside a panel of professional judges. Expect energy, excitement, and a networking experience unlike anything else in our industry. Winners will be announced immediately following the competition.
Day 5 (Tuesday) – Buskers Brunch at the Circle Bar (11am-12pm):
Sponsors, trainers, judges, and buskers will come together to connect about the experience and enjoy a meal together.
