TechTalks Stage
Session details:
This session will explore how LED pixels can be utilized as tools to solve artistic challenges and the process of designing the system. Concepts to be explored are…
- Real-life examples of how LED pixels were used to achieve an artistic vision. Pixel-mapped costumes, light-up daggers, lanterns, and illuminated art installations. I plan to bring as many examples as I can.
- How to pick your pixel protocol based on your project and budget.
- Does it need to be camera safe?
- Is speed a concern?
- The differences between Amazon and products from entertainment industry vendors.
- 16bit or 8bit?
- Color quality.
- How to pick your driver and power supply.
- Budget-friendly vs more expensive, reliable options. Pros vs Cons.
- Math and more math. Calculating data and power.
- What constraints come with using LED pixels, and how can you save yourself headaches by planning in advance?
- Data and more data. How to manage 3 to 31 universes of pixel data effectively.
- Troubleshooting.
- When is it a power issue or a data problem?
- Maybe the pixels are fine, but the issue is somewhere else. Where do you start?
- Q&A session.
This is a preliminary outline, and it will be fleshed out. I have presented a similar class at multiple universities, but this will be the next generation of it. LED technology is changing so quickly. If allowed, I hope to have various reps available to answer specific product questions afterward.
