Warren Kong

Bio:

Warren K. Kong is a Principal and Managing Director at Lightswitch, where he has spent more than 20 years bringing together creativity, technology, and practical problem-solving to create memorable experiences through light.

A seasoned lighting designer with more than three decades of industry experience, Warren began his career after studying at California State University, Fresno. His first professional chapter took him to Disney in Florida, where he developed his craft creating compelling lighting environments while learning an equally important lesson: great projects are built through collaboration. That early experience shaped an approach Warren has carried throughout his career—listen carefully, understand the client's goals, and work as an integral part of the larger creative and technical team.

Over the course of his career, Warren has contributed to projects for some of the world's most recognized entertainment, technology, and cultural organizations, including Disney, Universal Studios, Google, GE, Sony, Netflix, and the Hollywood Bowl.

What sets Warren apart is the unusual breadth of his experience. His work extends far beyond traditional architectural and entertainment lighting into highly specialized environments, including museums, aquariums, zoological facilities, horticultural environments, theme parks, corporate visitor centers, immersive attractions, and interactive experiences. These projects frequently require lighting to do much more than simply make a space look beautiful—it must consider artifact preservation, animal behavior, plant health, guest experience, safety, technology, operations, and long-term maintainability.

That combination of creative design and technical curiosity has made Warren a sought-after resource for projects that don't necessarily come with an established rulebook.

Recognized within the industry for his lighting expertise, Warren has contributed articles to leading industry publications and continues to explore the intersection of lighting, technology, interactivity, and experiential design. His work has also expanded beyond design into invention and product development. Warren is currently named on two patents and is pursuing two additional patents related to his ongoing development work.
