Joyce Liao

Bio:

Joyce Liao is an award-winning lighting designer whose work has been seen throughout the United States and internationally. She is the recipient of the USITT Peggy Ezekiel Award, with additional nominations for Berkie Awards and the AUDELCO Award. Her work has been featured in Theatre Design & Technology, the World Stage Design Exhibition, and the Hemsley Portfolio Review.

Over the course of her career, Joyce has designed lighting for more than 200 productions across Broadway, regional theatre, and international venues. Joyce holds an MFA in Theatre Design and Technology from Ohio University and a BFA in Peking Opera from Chinese Culture University. She has served as a full-time faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Illinois State University, where she has mentored the next generation of theatre artists and designers.
