Bio:

Jeremy Chernick is an award-winning special effects designer and partner at J&M Special Effects, one of New York's premier effects companies. For nearly 30 years, he has created special effects for Broadway, opera, dance, live television, concerts, museum installations, and immersive experiences.

Most recently, Jeremy designed the special effects for The Greatest Showman in Bristol, UK, the return to Broadway and West End productions of Beetlejuice The Musical; in addition to designing the special effects for five performances at the 2026 Tony Awards: The Book of Mormon, Lost Boys, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York, and Ragtime.

Jeremy's other theater credits include the Tony Award-winning Best Musical The Outsiders, where he used FirePixels for the first time in theater; as well as Sweeney Todd, Oklahoma!, Big Fish, and The Addams Family. He has worked on nearly every Disney Theatrical Group production since 2009, including Tarzan, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Frozen, Hercules, and The Greatest Showman. His West End credits further include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Let the Right One In.

Beyond theater, Jeremy designed the live hurricane of wind and newspaper for Doja Cat's 2023 VMAs performance; and worked on NBC's Peter Pan Live! and Jesus Christ Superstar Live!.

He is currently designing the special effects for two major upcoming projects: the Metropolitan Opera’s world premiere of Lincoln in the Bardo (opening October 19, 2026), The West end Premier of The Greatest Showman, a revival production of Spring Awakening at the Seaview theater in NYC, and the Alamo Museum’s immersive 4D theater in San Antonio (opening 2027).

Known for treating effects as a vehicle for storytelling, Jeremy believes they should deepen an audience's connection to the story rather than distract from it.
