Principal Acoustician

Bio:

Bruce Black, Principal Acoustician

During his lengthy career as a post production sound engineer, founder Bruce Black has worked for such luminaries as Skywalker Sound, Warner Brothers, Sony Picture Entertainment and others. During this time, Bruce saw that much of the commonly referred to information on acoustics was incorrect, and not based more on proven science or verifiable facts.

Indeed, some acoustical designs seemed to be based on guesses, hearsay, “mystical secret knowledge”, or even the “let’s try it and see if it works” guesswork approach. In the end, these were often just attempts to conceal ignorance.

Truly good rooms were elusive and rare, and their designers could not explain what it was that made them work or not; repeatable success was difficult or impossible.

Mr. Black instinctively felt acoustics was pure science, with no magical secrets or obscure knowledge involved. Creating successful rooms need not be a hit or miss affair. Mr. Black commenced studying many scientific authorities as Everest, Salter, Long, Toole, and others. These authors continue to be resources drawn upon by Mr. Black.

Using this education, Mr. Black combined it with a dedication to using true measured data (not guesses or the ever-popular hand clap) and creative thinking to synthesize a new vision of how to build successful critical sound spaces in a predictable, repeatable manner.

To bring this new vision to life, Mr. Black established MediaRooms Technology LLC in January, 2009, and assumed the role of Principal Acoustician.
