Carol Dodds
Video Director, Pioneer & Innovator
Bio:
Carol Dodds is a trailblazing video director and production innovator whose career has spanned some of the most influential moments in live music and entertainment. A graduate of West Virginia University with a BFA in Acting and Directing, Carol began her career in New York City, where a chance opportunity at See Factor launched her into the world of live production. Initially recruited for her technical precision, she quickly expanded from soldering lighting consoles to designing fixtures, ultimately creating the iconic “Flying A” truss system for Aerosmith. Her first touring experience was with Blue Öyster Cult, marking the beginning of a groundbreaking journey in live events.
Carol made history in 1988 when she transitioned from lighting to video direction on Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s Tunnel of Love Express Tour, becoming one of the first women to hold the role of video director in concert touring. From there, she went on to shape the visual storytelling of live performance for some of the world’s biggest artists and productions, including Madonna, Mariah Carey, Bette Midler, Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys, and Woodstock 1999. Her expertise also extended to high-profile live broadcasts and special events such as the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, Formula 1 in Singapore, and the Arista Pre-Grammy Telecast.
With a sharp eye for composition, a lighting designer’s instinct for rhythm and timing, and an innate ability to capture the soul of live performance, Carol has redefined how audiences experience concerts on screen. Respected for her artistry and admired for her collaborative spirit, she stands as both a pioneer for women in touring and a master of her craft, continuing to inspire the next generation of live event professionals.
