 Press Releases

  • Void Acoustics will be showcasing some of their latest products at the LDI trade show, from 19-21 October. Those attending can see: the new models of the much-anticipated Bias Q5, Q2 and D1 amplifiers; the ArcM 12 - part of the range of passive and self-powered, multi-purpose loudspeakers that complement the Arcline series; and the Cyclone 8, enhancing the highly popular Cyclone family.

All three of the revolutionary enhanced Bias amplifier designs are eco-friendly with energy-saving efficiency, resulting in low operational costs, power consumption, heat dissipation and carbon footprint. The Bias Q5 (4 x 5,200 Watts) is capable of being driven from a wide variety of supply sources, including single, dual or three-phase supply. Specially designed with versatility and ease of use in mind, it is equally suitable for most low frequency enclosures, as well as high-power, full-range systems in any configuration. The lighter Bias Q2 (4 x 1,500 Watts) and Bias D1 (2 x 1,000 Watts), areDante™ enabled amplifiers designed to work with lo-Z (from 2 Ohms) and 70V/100V distributed lines; any mixed configuration of low and high impedance output loads can be realised, making them suitable for all applications in installed sound reinforcement systems.

The ArcM 12 has multiple working surfaces, allowing it to be used as a near field booth monitor or a conventional stage wedge, as well as having the ability to be pole mounted or wall mounted for FOH purposes. In terms of mobility, measures have been taken to reduce weight, while maintaining an ergonomic design to appease manual handling requirements. Acoustically, FEA analysis has significantly reduced port noise and air distortion. Weighing just 22kg, the 12” and 1.4” co-axial driver is combined with a 1,200 W RMS amplifier module, with integrated DSP and four configurable presets, enabling a peak SPL of 133 dB and a frequency response of 60-18kHz -3dB, making it perfect for life on the road.

The Cyclone 8 is an ideal mid-point solution between the existing Cyclone 55 and the Cyclone 10 models. Offering an installation-friendly package and multiple colour options, together with a weather-protected, smooth cellulose finish, this versatile speaker can be used both indoors and outdoors. Whether it’s a stand-alone application for beach bars, lounges, restaurants, cruise ships and hotels, or providing area fill when used with a larger main club system, high-quality sound is a given. State-of-the-art porting maximises its bandwith and performance. The low frequency driver and 1” coaxially mounted neodymium high frequency compression driver provide increased efficiency for its compact and stylish form. Flexible mounting solutions enable the Cyclone 8 to be installed quickly and securely, with a wide range of adjustment.

Void’s Director of USA Operations, Rob Hofkamp, is looking forward to showcasing Void products at this year’s show. “As our second time at LDI, this will be a welcome return for us. The new products launched earlier this year are testament to the Void brand and desirable additions to our existing collection.”

  • Canadian hip hop star, actor and Jordan brand ambassador Drake recently channelled his entrepreneurial skills into the hospitality industry, opening Pick 6ix - his first combined restaurant and club, located at 33 Yonge Street in his hometown of Toronto. With an extensive menu covering an enticing range of cuisine, 178 can dine comfortably within an inspiring, electric atmosphere. Luxurious décor brings a touch of class to diners who also have the option of being seated in one of the private dining rooms, the expansive outdoor terrace, or a VIP area which includes a champagne bar.

As a man with strong family roots in music, Drake’s chosen sound system for this impressive venue needed to match the highest standards of interior design. Void Acoustics was the obvious brand of choice, with the installation expertly executed by the Void Benelux team. The project began last summer, with Drake and his business partner, Sabah Nissan, selecting the acclaimed Horeca Sfeermakers - an agency specialising in bar and club design, based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The entire production, design, furniture and electronics are all Dutch; everything was specially shipped in from the Netherlands to Canada, giving it a unique design edge.

A combination of two Air Motions, four Airtens, two Venu 215s and eight Cyclone 55s, all in a high gloss black finish complete the sound in the bar-club and restaurant. For the VIP area of the club, a further two Air Motions and two Airtens in a customised chrome gold, together with a Venu 215 and Venu X subwoofers ensure the sound is second-to-none. All of the subwoofers are discretely hidden away in the interior beneath the sofas. Void Benelux flew in from Amsterdam to ensure the installation went exactly as planned, with Robert Hofkamp - Director of US operations for Void assisting the team.

Managing Director, Wesley Pierik, put careful thought into selecting the right Void products for this venue. “We have previously worked with Sabah Nissan, where he has a similar Void system in his Amsterdam venue ‘The Alley’ - a restaurant that turns into a bar and club over the evening, just like Pick 6ix. Sabah was so amazed by the sound quality and versatility of his existing Void system that he wanted a very similar setup in this partnership venture with Drake.”

Wesley explained that a number of challenges had to be overcome, including the restaurant ceiling being covered by a wooden skeleton structure. “Fitting the Air Motion speakers in-between was a very precise job so we decided to fly to Toronto to make sure that every detail was thoroughly planned for, right down to the type of brackets used. I am happy we took this path because the end result turned out to be stunning and the clients are very happy.”

In working for such a high-profile client, who is himself a successful musician, using only the best engineers in the industry, the speaker installation had to be of the highest standard. It was testament to Void Benelux’s skill to be told by both Drake’s righthand man, Nessel ‘Chubbs’ Beezer, and his chief sound engineer, Noel Cadastre, that they were “blown away by the quality and impact of their new VOID system.”
