 Press Releases

  • This year Le Maitre is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Since it was established back in 1977 by Rick Wilson and Harold Berlinski, and joined three years later by Karen Cornacchia, the company has gone from strength to strength to become a global leader in its field of pyrotechnics and special effects.

In those earliest days Le Maitre was producing mirror balls, as well as the Pea Souper dry ice machine, the first products in its renowned PyroFlash range and the 2-way controller, products that are all still going strong today. The company quickly grew and in 1980 the pyrotechnics factory in Peterborough was officially opened.

Fast forward 40 years and today the product range has grown to include over 1,500 state-of-the-art products. PyroFlash was joined by the ProStage II range, and more recently the Virtually Smokeless products with their extremely intense colours. All products have always been manufactured in the UK, all in full compliance with industry regulations.

As Wilson says, “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 40th year in business and although it’s nice to take stock and look back at what we’ve achieved we’re excited about what’s still to come. We are constantly striving for better, cleaner products that allow spectators and audiences across the world to see our effects at their very best, and we have some exciting developments with large scale pyrotechnics later this year. To simplify things for users we have also added smart controls to our most popular smoke and haze machines, enabling the user to set-up, control and diagnose errors quickly and easily from their mobile phone or tablet.”

Le Maitre Events, spearheaded by Karen Cornacchia, continues to thrive, designing, supplying and firing pyro and effects for numerous tours, festivals, stage shows, TV and film productions and corporate events across the UK and Europe.

“All in all, things are looking good for the future of Le Maitre,” says Cornacchia. “We have an established international distributor network, an outstanding presence in the European market, and we have a strong team of dedicated staff, many of whom have been with us for over 25 years. The American market continues to expand through Le Maitre USA, LLC and we are just starting to manufacture products in a new site in Missouri. We are all looking forward to many more exciting times ahead.”

  • Le Maitre will be unveiling their new Wireless Salamander Quad Pro at this year's LDI.

The Wireless Salamander Quad Pro is a completely wireless version of Le Maitre's highly popular Salamander Quad Pro flame machine, with integrated wireless COBRA Firing Systems technology. With an internal chargeable battery and no running cables, the Wireless Salamander Quad Pro can simply be put in place and switched on, making it easy, quick and safe to use.

The compact four-canister flame unit offers a great level of versatility. Each canister can be fired independently, producing 30 seconds of continuous flame or up to 120 flame balls. Each flame reaches up to 15 foot in height. Alternatively, all four canisters can be fired at the same time to produce a much bigger single flame reaching up to a spectacular 28 foot.

With its compact design, over 24 hours' standby time, an easy to use OLED display, a choice of flame color and fuel type, the Wireless Salamander Quad Pro is an ideal choice for stadiums and larger venues.

In addition, Le Maitre is now producing large scale Comets that reach up to 300’, perfect for stadiums and outdoor events.

Available both with and without a tail, they are available in heights of 150’, 200’, 250’ and 300’. There are also Matrix Comets available in heights of 150’, 200’ and 250’. These have a flitter effect in addition to the chosen colour. The Comets are available in Blue, Gold Glitter, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, White, White Flitter and Yellow.

Mines are also now available in heights up to 150’, both with and without a tail. Available in Amber, Blue, Crackle, Flitter, Gold Glitter, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Shimmer, Silver, White and Yellow.

  • This year Le Maitre is celebrating 40 years of manufacturing pyrotechnics and special effects. Up to now, all pyrotechnics have been manufactured at the company’s pyrotechnics factory in Peterborough, UK. With sales continuing to grow, this new production facility in the US will allow Le Maitre to continue to meet the ever-increasing demand for its pyrotechnics.

Located in rural Missouri, Le Maitre’s new pyrotechnics factory has already begun to manufacture a range of large scale pyrotechnics, including 150’ and 200’ Comets, as well as Flames and Gun Shot. Many more products will be added over the coming months.

Pyrotechnic R&D specialist Toby Phillips has moved to Missouri from the Peterborough factory to take up the role of Plant Manager and to set up and oversee all manufacturing. As Phillips says, “It’s a really exciting time for Le Maitre. I’m thrilled to be using my experience and expertise to ensure that the pyrotechnics we produce in Missouri are of the same consistently high standard that we produce in the UK. We are building an excellent team of talented staff here and the future of this plant is looking very strong.”

Joint Managing Director of Le Maitre, Karen Cornacchia, agrees. “We’re delighted to now be manufacturing in the US. We have many key customers located in the US, serviced by our US offices in Las Vegas. Manufacturing pyrotechnics here will mean that we are able to provide our US customers with an even better service in terms of response times for products. It is key to the business that we continue to meet the demands of our customers. As we continue to expand and introduce new products to the market, having this second manufacturing facility will ensure that we continue to provide the excellent service and consistently high quality products that we are so well-known for around the world.”
