Complete hands-on training for using CAD based programs.  This workshop is designed for beginners and taught by an experienced and patient University professor.  Learn how to create scenic designs with floor plans and views, 2D CAD basics, and gain an understanding of the use of IES file formats and photometric values needed for animation and light renderings.  Small class size insures effective mastery of CAD tools and concepts.  Through knowledge of the fundamentals of AutoCAD® technology, a user will be able to create the plot and have everything in place for creating fast and accurate rendered lighting and camera views.  The two-day Advanced LD Assistant 08 & AutoCAD® 2008 workshop on Wednesday and Thursday continues the training and is the perfect sequel to this intensive program.

Taught by: G.B. Stephens, Associate Professor of Design, University of South Florida and an associate instructor from Design & Drafting. 

Target audience: Lighting designers, scenic designers, event planners, production directors, anyone with a need to use CAD tools for creating drawings based on the most widely-used CAD programs incorporating Autodesk® technology.

Session highlights:
1. The question “How to Begin?” is thoroughly answered and demonstrated.
2. General concepts of CAD operation, effective drawing space, and menu utilization.  
3. LD Assistant 08 and AutoCAD® terminology fundamentals demonstrated, explained, and taught, in a manner that directly relates to Theatre and Live Event scenarios.
4. 2D CAD plots and designs are created from concept and a blank paper-space resulting in a finished drawing that is dimensioned, to scale, and with associated lists of lighting instruments, etc.
5. File management including block labeling, printing, file conversions, and exporting to Lightwright® software.
6. Personalized future learning program developed and given to all attendees.
